My style is very thoughtful, a well balanced composition full of candy coloured sceneries, suspicious looking characters and wonky shapes that really reflect my positive attitude and personal interest in silly looking toys, nature and colorful characters.
My inspiration comes from daily life in general and all things i am interested in: Most of all nature, animals and plants, but also toys, skateboard culture, mid century design, movies, traveling, my friends and family. Basically anything. When i see something interesting i just take a picture or write it down so i can use it later.
I am heavily influenced by printmaking where every color makes the design harder to print and more expensive as well. So that is why i always try to pick 2 or 3 colors that work really well together as a family and add another color that is more contrasting to spice it up. From there i start applying these colors to my design and keep on puzzling until i am happy. Color is everything, it totally sets the mood and since i kind of delete all my linework, colored shapes is all you see.
I always see myself more as a decorative illustrator in stead of a narrative and conceptual illustrator. I just try to set a certain mood, most of the time a very positive, slightly weird mood but that is what i try to communicate in stead af a heavy message or certain idea. I just like to focus on the visuals feeling in stead of the concept.
Water is life, and essential to function in the world, i am not kidding when i say that i often think of how lucky i am with something this tasty and essential at my disposal at all times. And that this is not the case for everybody... In my art i often play with the shape of water and try to apply this fluid style back into other elements in the design.
